Class 2 is a full KS2 class with (currently) 30 children from Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 all learning together. To ensure that differentiation is in place and to make sure that the children are all challenged appropriately we make full use of the latest technology available to us. All children have access to their own up-to-date netbook so that they can access learning programs that can be tailored to suit their learning needs. As children progress through the class they are expected to take on more responsibility for their own learning under the direction of the class teacher. A strong emphasis is placed on learning from and with other children and we have very high expectations of behaviour and effort.
We work hard but we play hard as well ....
We use the creative themes for learning developed by Chris Quigley Education at KiM School. We find that these topics - which link learning in all areas wherever possible - allow us flexibility to explore subject areas that the children find inspiring. We don't aim to cover absolutely everything mentioned in the plan but to gain a breadth and depth of understanding across the age range of the class.
In their four years in Class 2 the children will work on 12 of the following topics:
- Achievements and Legacies
- Art bot and other electronic challenges
- Earthquakes, zones and volcanoes
- Land of Hope and Glory
- Land of the Free
- Make a banana keyboard and other control challenges
- Rich and Poor
- Shake things up and other structural challenges
- The Arts
- Transport and Trade
